AW joins the ‘England squad’ with aluminium approval

AW Repair Group’s specialist prestige repair centre in Lincolnshire has joined the elite few to achieve the British Standard Kitemark for aluminium vehicle repair.

While more and more vehicle manufacturers, notably LandRover, Jaguar, Porsche and Audi, are turning to aluminium to make vehicles lighter, faster and safer only a few bodyshops across the country are investing in the equipment, training and technology required to carry out crash repair.

Less than 5% of the UK’s 850 Kitemark registered bodyshops carry the BSI stamp of approval for aluminium.

Presented with a certificate at BSI’s HQ in Milton Keynes, Managing Director Andrew Walsh said: “This is a proud moment and a great achievement for the whole company. Again an indiciation of our commitment to the future generation of vehicle manufacturer and repair.”

The group relocated its HQ in February last year and since worked tirelessly to develop the site as a prestige centre of excellent already achieving aluminium approval from Jaguar LandRover, Audi, VW and Porsche.

Branch manager Steve Hoe, who has worked for the company for 13 years added: “It’s great to have the manufacturer approvals and from a customer’s point of view I’ts another level to be recognised as worldwide known as the British Standard Kitemark.

“The standard embraces process management which supports my role as a bodyshop manager and gives customer confidence that their vehicle is being repaired to the highest levels of both quality and safety.”

Following the branch relocation to a purpose built site in February 2012 the branch first achieved aluminium approval from the Jaguar LandRover group just 8 months later.

“The hardest part has been the downtime for training, which included two weeks intensive training at VW Group’s manufacturing plant in Germany,” added Steve. “But the sense of pride and passion these now highly skilled technicians carry out their work is undoubtable. One said it’s suddenly like making the England football squad!”
