AW well wishers raise £1,079 for British Heart Foundation

WELL wishers have helped AW Repair Group raise no less than £1,079 for the British Heart Foundation.

BHF1After the Sleaford, Lincolnshire, branch won the coveted title of National Bodyshop of the Year six weeks ago the company pledged to donate £1 to the charity for every congratulatory email, tweet, like and view received.

Big hearted boss Andrew Walsh decided to share his success with the BHF in memory of his late father who passed away earlier this year.

“Winning National Bodyshop of the Year was a proud moment for everyone in the company. My amazing father who encouraged me to set up my first bodyshop in 1993 would have been very proud too,” said Andrew.

“Last year he underwent a triple heart by-pass but sadly passed away in February. Although he was not here to see AW Repair Group win I wanted to acknowledge his unwavering support and the British Heart Foundation came to mind straight away.

“We started receiving lots of messages congratulating us on the win so we decided to donate £1 for every one received over the following two weeks.”

Well wishers viewed the company’s win, recorded live on the night and published on their YouTube channel, no less than 853 times with the remainder made up from direct emails, texts, Facebook likes, comments and shares, and Twitter favourites and retweets.

AW Repair Group was founded by Andrew Walsh in Sleaford in 1998. It now has branches in Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire and Derbyshire employing 120 staff and repairing around 160 accident damaged vehicles each week for household name insurance companies and corporate fleets.

Don’t worry: Be Appy!

This is the message to our customers as we launch a comprehensive mobile device app including on-the-scene crash data capture.

aw mob app1

More than a year in development the group’s application AW Accident App is now available to download free from the Apple and android market.
Carefully constructed to appeal to our past customers, future and present, the app offers a range of services in the palm of your hand.
Customers are encouraged with a welcome email to download the app to track the vehicle claim and repair process in the palm of their hand.
Meanwhile social media followers have already downloaded the app and used the QuickQuote calculator for minor repairs with the option to send images direct to AW Repair Group’s VDAs for expert help and guidance.

And the handy app doesn’t stop there…users are encouraged to retain the app on their device to help guide them through the mind-numbing moment of being involved in an accident. On-the-scene data capture allows users to contemporaneously note accident circumstances, location, weather, other party details, witnesses and photographic evidence.

With a further module to provide feedback and one touch dialling there is much value to the app for customers and for AW Repair Group who can also interact with users via push notifications.

Jade Johnson, AW Repair Group Business Development, Marketing & Communication, said: “We’re very proud to finally launch the app which has been in development for quite some time. This is also part of streamlining our whole customer liaison process with welcome letters, FAQs and T&Cs now forwarded to customers in digital format with the added value of downloading the app.”

Added Managing Director Andrew Walsh: “Putting AW Repair Group at our customers’ fingertips is another example of how we continuously strive to be innovative and give our customers, and future customers, an all-encompassing holistic approach to accident repair services.”

Tablets for Technicians set to save AW Repair Group £6,000 per year

With rising print costs and the requirement for methods to now be provided in colour the group decided to simple IT to its strength.

Managing Director Andrew Walsh commented: “We have seen print costs increase by up to £100 per month per branch recently. When we investigated it was obvious the cause was two-fold: the PAS requirement to have multiple-paged methods with the vehicle and the need for these to now be produced in colour due to colour coding within the method manuals.
“We trialled the use of tablets with technicians at our Lincolnshire branch and it worked so well we rolled it out across the group within a month.”

Senior Group Vehicle Damage Co-Ordinator Rob Mann added: “And we immediately noticed the added benefit of technicians using the devices to photograph and capture additional damage providing the support we need as VDAs to seek amended authorisation.”
Before commencing work a technician will request the method to be emailed to his device by the VDA.
“And this has really had an added benefit too,” continued Rob. “It opens up a discussion between the VDA and technician about the job; any in-progress images we might need and any other information to be shared before the repair even starts.”

The innovative change in process is expected to save the group more than £6,000 a year in print costs alone.

Last month AW Repair Group launched AW Crash App on the apple and android markets offering claim repair tracking, instant QuickQuote and on the scene crash data capture.

AW Kids Enjoy Training Day

With the long summer holidays in full swing AW Repair Group arranged a ‘grown up’ training day for youngsters.
Children of staff throughout the group were invited to the HQ’s training room to learn the skills to put together a PowerPoint presentation.

Insight IT Training Ltd delivered the five hour session for youngsters who each received certificates of competence after mastering Powerpoint basics, animation, hyperlinks to YouTube, inserting self-recording video clips and giving a full presentation on their chosen subject to envied adults.

Some of the topics included My Favourite Aeroplanes; Manchester United and Ballet.

One youngster commented: “It’s been epic today! I loved being at my mum’s work because I got to see where she sits and what she does and impress her with my presentation too!”

Central Customer Service Receptionist Joanna Shakespeare added:  “It was a great idea and lovely for AW to do this for the staff’s children. It’s hard to find different things to do in the holidays to keep the children entertained and this hit the spot on so many levels.”

Some of the youngsters who took part are pictured with their certificates and Insight’s training co-ordinator Clare Blake.20150806_140258

AW Repair Group pass Volkswagen Audit with flying colours!

AW Repair Group is pleased to announce they are still among the elite 33 bodyshops across the country to hold Volkswagen full structural aluminium approval.

And today, the group’s prestige repair centre in Sleaford, Lincolnshire has passed their full Volkswagen audit with no minors. The audit took just over 3 hours, and was the quickest audit ever undertaken at the site with everything in its rightful place.

The Lincolnshire site has 2 apprentices on the Volkswagen paint and body programme who are enjoying their ‘on-the-job’ training experiences. Kane is on the first year of his apprenticeship and James is on his second year, both are progressing well and the company is looking forward to watching the young technicians develop their skills over the next few years under the guidance of two senior Volkswagen members of staff, who have both been with the company many years.

Congratulations to all the team in Lincolnshire for their hard work and effort put into the Volkswagen programme.

Belvoir Castle Porsche Pageant 2015

AW Repair Group was delighted to sponsor the trophies for Porsche Club GB Region 4’s Porsche Pageant amidst the beautiful setting of Belvoir Castle, near Grantham.

Driving up the winding country roads to the castle esplanade, where we found an array of Porsche’s ready for display and the owners eagerly polishing away and making their beauties gleam.

We took our stand next to Porsche Nottingham, with our AW Mobile Solution mobile repair van and Gazebo, which proved a perfect shade from the glorious sunshine which was beating down on us (a first for the British weather to cooperate!)

The gates opened to the public at 11am, to stroll around the grounds tour the castle, which is rather impressive and a must! The public could also browse among all of the Porsches on show ready to be judged.

Overall 53 cars entered the pageant, a very good turn-out for the first year.We even had a fly past by the Dakota, later on the Vulcan and later on again the Red Arrows – so all in all we couldn’t have done much better.

Judged categories; 1st and 2nd Prize for Water-cooled engines (which we sponsored), 1st and 2nd prize for Air-cooled engines, Best car of show and the Best 912.

A massive congratulations to all winners and a massive thank you to Lord Hugo for presenting the prizes on the day.

AW Repair Group’s Volkswagen Paint and Body apprentice James Hill was in Penrith, Wales, last week with 60 other Volkswagen apprentices from across the country to improve their team skills.

Their week team building consisted of climbing Helvellyn, a 950m mountain that is the 3rd highest fell in the heart of the Lake District (picture below), orienteering, raft building in the local area and Cheese press caving (squeezing between two rocks in a cave!).

AW Repair Group in Watchdog Programme

BBC & BSI say trust your approved accident repair centre

Trust your approved accident repair centre

AW Repair Group was under BBC spotlight this week featuring in a Watchdog episode focusing on safe vehicle repair.
The British Standard Institute recently contacted us to ensure consumers are aware of the automotive industry standards explored in Monday’s broadcast (March 16th) of BBC Watchdog test house.

The vehicle repair sector is not regulated by law, only those bodyshops with integrity choose to subscribe to the BSI who regularly carry out audits to ensure vehicles are repaired in the way in which the manufacturer and safety methods approve.

AW have opened site 4!

AW Repair Group is proud to have opened the doors at branch number four this morning (Monday 2nd March)

AW Accident Repair Centres (Derbyshire) is a 15,000sq feet bodyshop located on the Markham Vale Enterprise Park, just off Junction 29A of the M1.

Managing Director Andrew Walsh commented: “I am extremely pleased to announce the opening of our latest site. We took possession of the building in December with equipping and installation a very smooth process.

“The site neatly links together our existing branches while expanding our geographical coverage to the Chesterfield area.”

The branch will operate under the watchful eye of Ian Pearson, existing manager of the group’s Yorkshire branch where his assistant Chris Keast will be taking on a more active role.

At Markham Vale, Ian is ably supported by a wealth of knowledge from former paint demonstrator Simon Pratt and customer liaison advisor Amy Baines who has been working at the Yorkshire branch for the past six months.

The £450,000 project includes two drive through Junair booths, three bay Blackhawk Korek pulling system with Shark measuring equipment and Car-O-Liner jig and purposely designed open plan offices in the company’s corporate blue and orange.

“We are very pleased to offer this extended coverage for our existing work partners who are seeking quality bodyshop space and customer service here in the Chesterfield area,” added Andrew. “Along with renewing relationships with some of our former insurance partners.”
